OVERVIEW

Gastroenterology and Hepatology RoundUp 2010, our sixth annual, is designed to update providers in gastroenterology and hepatology on new approaches to the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This course is specifically targeted towards Gastroenterologists, Hepatologists, Family Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Internists, Surgeons, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses and Clinical Transplant Nurses & Coordinators.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Delineate the side effects, dosing intervals, and resistance potential of direct acting antiviral therapies in phase 3 clinical trials that will be available for clinical use for hepatitis C.

  • Appropriately identify and manage patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection.

  • Define the benefits and complications of different surgical options for weight loss in NASH patients.

  • Summarize updates on current standards of care regarding management of cirrhosis complications, particularly transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) for refractory ascites and vasopressin antagonist therapy for hyponatremia.

  • Interpret screening guidelines and appropriate treatment options for hepatocellular carcinoma.

  • Utilize B-blockade and banding to obliteration as primary prophylaxis for variceal hemorrhage.

  • Synthesize the indications for endoscopy in evaluation of small bowel pathology with the endoscopic methods now available.

  • Improve colorectal neoplasia detection rates through CT enterography, DNA stool sampling and third eye retroscope.

  • Compare and contrast medical vs. surgical treatment options for chronic pancreatitis.

  • Through the use of case studies, formulate diagnoses, appropriate treatment plans and follow up guided by an expert panel.
