MISSION BRIEFING

The Annual EP/Noninvasive Seminar 2010 will provide the participant with an update on the most current information regarding the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease, with an emphasis on advances in the fields of electrophysiology, pacing, and noninvasive cardiology.

MISSION OBJECTIVES

  • Identify goals of atrial fibrillation ablation and appropriate candidates for this treatment.

  • Incorporate specialized-care delivery models to reduce re-hospitalization rates, and improve functional status and quality of life for the CHF patient.

  • Prioritize patient appropriateness for genetic screening of inherited cardiac channelopathies.

  • Employ a systematic approach for recognizing and diagnosing cardiac arrhythmias.

  • Identify patterns of cardiac arrhythmias (atrial, ventricular, junctional) as they appear on an electrocardiogram.

  • Evaluate the role of remote patient monitoring in device follow-up with the potential benefits and barriers to widespread utilization.

  • Compare existing practices to best practices of routine and perioperative management of implantable cardioverter-defibrillator devices.

  • Contrast percutaneous left atrial catheter ablation with either rate or rhythm control drugs for reducing total mortality in patients with untreated or undertreated atrial fibrillation.

  • Illustrate the effective use of anticoagulation and newer agents for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation.

  • Critique new devices used in the prevention of stroke in atrial fibrillation.

  • Examine guideline recommendations for new evidence-based state-of-the-art therapy for symptomatic heart failure patients.

  • Apply current guideline recommendations in the decision-making process for different patient case presentations.
